North Korea-Linked Hackers Steal $2.02 Billion in 2025: Global Crypto Theft Surge

The year 2025 saw a significant uptick in global cryptocurrency theft, with North Korea-linked hackers responsible for at least $2.02 billion out of the nearly $3.4 billion stolen between January and early December.

This figure represents a substantial 51% increase compared to the previous year and a notable jump of over $681 million from 2024, when such thefts totaled more than $1.34 billion.

These cybercriminal activities have underscored the growing threat posed by North Korea’s sophisticated hacking groups in orchestrating major cryptocurrency heists across multiple jurisdictions.

Experts warn that as these actors continue to exploit vulnerabilities within blockchain systems and financial networks, the risk of further significant losses remains high. The global community must strengthen cybersecurity measures and collaborate on international anti-hacking efforts to mitigate such heists going forward.
