Redwood Materials, the battery recycling and energy storage company founded by former Tesla CTO JB Straubel, has appointed Deepak Ahuja as its new Chief Financial Officer. Ahuja returns to work alongside Straubel after previously serving as Tesla’s finance chief during its early public market years.

The strategic hire signals Redwood’s continued expansion as it scales its battery material recycling operations. However, incoming CFO Ahuja emphasized it’s still too early for the company to consider an initial public offering, according to recent statements. The timing suggests Redwood remains focused on operational growth rather than immediate exit strategies.

Ahuja’s experience guiding Tesla through its IPO process brings valuable expertise to Redwood’s leadership team. His appointment reunites him with Straubel after their successful collaboration at Tesla, potentially accelerating Redwood’s path toward becoming a major player in sustainable battery manufacturing and recycling.
