Singapore’s fleet of public buses already carries cameras that record every mile of the city’s roads. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is now preparing to turn that footage into a safety net by adding an AI‑driven analysis layer. The new system will sift through existing video streams to spot violations in real time, giving drivers visual feedback while feeding valuable data to traffic managers.
The AI will flag trouble spots: cars drifting into bus lanes, vehicles parked illegally, and visible road defects such as potholes or cracked surfaces. However, a detection does not trigger a fine. Officers will still review each alert, weeding out false positives before any penalty is issued, preserving fairness.
The project may later cover pedestrian crossings and weather hazards, feeding a city‑wide safety dashboard. By using AI, Singapore hopes to smooth traffic, cut accidents, and protect streets without hiring extra officers.
