AI Attacks Reshape Security Leaders’ Roles, Yet Response Gaps Loom

Chainguard’s latest research reveals that nine in ten security leaders say AI attacks have reshaped their roles more than any shift in the past decade. This transformation is profound, yet the ability to act has not kept pace with the accelerating threat landscape, leaving teams struggling to detect and respond swiftly.

The survey of 1,300 security professionals also shows a stark expectation: 77 % anticipate an attacker will exploit a vulnerability within the next year. This confidence among adversaries reflects the growing speed and sophistication of AI‑driven attacks, which can probe networks and identify weaknesses far faster than human‑only methods.

Even more troubling, 54 % admit their companies knowingly leave high‑or critical‑severity flaws unpatched at least sometimes. The lag between awareness and remediation creates a dangerous window for attackers to strike. To close this gap, organizations must prioritize automated patching, AI‑enhanced detection, and rapid response workflows that can match the velocity of modern threats.
