San Joaquin RTD Gets $10.3M Boost for Hybrid Bus Fleet

San Joaquin County’s public transit is set for a green upgrade. Congressman Josh Harder announced a significant $10.3 million federal grant earmarked for the San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD). The funds, awarded by the Federal Transit Administration, will enable RTD to introduce nine new hybrid buses into its fleet, marking a step towards sustainable transportation.

The transition to hybrid buses offers multiple benefits. These vehicles combine traditional combustion engines with electric motors, resulting in reduced emissions and improved fuel efficiency. For San Joaquin County, this means cleaner air and lower operational costs for the RTD. The hybrid technology also contributes to a quieter ride, enhancing the overall passenger experience.

This investment aligns with broader efforts to modernize public transportation across the nation. Hybrid buses represent a practical and readily deployable solution for reducing the carbon footprint of transit systems. As communities grapple with climate change, investments in eco-friendly infrastructure become increasingly vital for creating a sustainable future.
